Every time something's
different. We've never been at any club ride before, and the largest gang
we've joined had 7 vehicles. This Saturday, we joined the Pioneer Centres'
(Land Rover and Porsche dealer in San Diego) sponsored ride to Los Coyotes
Indian Reservation.
It does not take much
to talk us into going there; we've been there twice during the week before,
once in the Landie, another time - in a Jeep. This ride was supposed to
be a "Land Rover only" deal, so the jeep could take a little break.
This day, 22 Land Rovers
assembled at the Pioneer Centres' parking lot, mostly Discovery and Disco
Series 2, with three Range Rovers and one Defender-90. Some of the vehicles
were owned by LR dealer staffers (who happen to be off-roaders at their
spare time - wonder why), others belonged to people of different background
and interest, but willing to trade some lacquer on the sheetmetal for excitement
of four-wheeling. After some goodies, box lunches, and walkie-talkies were
dispensed, the crowd went on to the East County. Sure enough, a convoy
of 22 Land Rovers did attract a few glances from motoring public.
Once in the Reservation,
we proceeded to the road that winds to the top of Hot Springs Mountain
(at 6533 ft., it's a highest peak in San Diego County). Roughly near 5000
ft., the first snow was encountered on the road, prompting the Pioneer
people to a little lecture on driving on the slippery surfaces. |
Here's some snow. Our airedale Teddy is already happy,
but we aren't to stay here for long.
More snow on our way. Nothing bad, though.

Little snack on the top of the Hot Springs Mtn. There's barely
enough space for 22 vehicles! |
