Hi everyone, just wanted to share some fun. On Sunday morning I almost felt like the weekend's wasted, for I missed the chance to hook up with Pete Griffith and go to Anza-Borrego. My cooling problems didn't disappear - rather got worse, since after replacement of the freeze plug in the side of the block coolant started leaking from the back of the engine. Are there any freeze plugs in the rear of the block, somewhere under the flexplate? If so... Well, got myself a 6.6 gal plastic gasoline can, filled it with water, threw in the back together with a few one-gallon cans. To save whatever's left of the good day, we took off with a friend of mine and my son to my favorite place - Los Coyotes Indian reservation. Spent the gallon of water on the 60-mile trip to the place. Found some nice tame dirt road that was supposed to lead to the top of 6533 ft.-high hill (from ~3000 ft), and started climbing. Temp needle moved upward a bit, still OK. Now, there was a exciting-looking trail taking off up a steep hill, with loose sand for traction. Hubs locked, 4WD switch flipped, and I'm quickly finding myself near the top of the hill with 4WD still not engaged, and rear tires kicking dust like inside a vac cleaner. Temp needle surely moved to the right (up, if somebody has a different gauge arrangement), and suggested going down in a hurry. Which is what we did, though not without some fun when I slid sideways across the ruts (4WD still inop). Took half an hour to cool her down, and eat whatever we had from the last gas station. Went on. Nice and graded dirt road all the way to the top, a bunch of people and SUVs on display, and truly incredible 360 degrees-wide view. That's one of the few places you can see a significant part of San Diego county's territory. OK, got the views, went down. The map that Los Coyotes Indians give you at the gate isn't exactly the USGS quality; it indicated some trail going to the left called "Dangerous Road."
